We're very slowly starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and with golf courses set to open on the 29th March, it's looking brighter than ever.

Best London Courses to Play After Lockdown

We finally have a date, 29th March. After a long wait, we’ll finally be able to get back on golf courses in England in just a few short weeks. I’m sure those of us stuck in London during the lockdown will be as keen as ever for a breath of fresh air.

So, for Londoners who are eager to get back out of the fairway without travelling too far, here’s a few London clubs and courses that I can recommend for when that is possible again.

Quick disclaimer: since first collecting this list, I've noticed that some of these clubs are already fully booked for the forseeable, or not allowing non-members in yet. But even if you have to wait a little longer, I'd say it's definitely still worth putting these courses on your list.

Tandridge Golf Club

Tucked right in to the Surrey countryside, this club can offer the a small town feel, while just being a stone's throw from London. It was designed by the famous golf course architect, Harry Colt, so you know you can expect good views and a quality course. With a spring green fee of £55, it's one of the more expensive ones on the list, but definitely worth a visit to treat yourself after a long winter in lockdown.

Croham Hurst Golf Club

Easily reachable from London and Croydon, this second Surrey club is a real gem. The rolling hills scenery is just wonderful, you'd never know you're so close to the big city. Founded in 1911, there's a great sense of history about the place that you just can't get in some newer places. And be sure to call ahead if you need to use one of 4 golf buggies for just £25 per day.

Grim's Dyke Golf Course

This beautiful course has an equally fantastic attitude to those who come to play. Their philosophy is all about making everyone feel welcome, and the informal booking system is one of the most low-fuss out there. This is the perfect place for anyone who feels out of place in close communities and cliques and just wants to play a simple, good old-fashioned game of golf.

Verulam Golf Club

This club has a very special history as the home of the Ryder Cup, where the cup itself was first donated by one of their members in 1927. Despite this impressive history, summer green fees are surprisingly affordable for visitors at £45. For me, this was an absolute must as a golf history enthusiast.
