The Challenge Tour, which is the division just below the Main Tour in Europe, is coming close to the end of the season, with only one more tournament to go, The Grand Final (Nov. 04-07), and T-golf & country club will serve as the venue to it. Ondrej Lieser, from The Czech Republic will defend title this weekend, but the eyes are in the Spanish golfer Santiago Tarrio, who is ranked 1st in the Challenge leaderboard and has secured his card to play in the Main Tour next season.
The European Challenge Tour always looks for the best venues to host their events, and without any doubts, the Spanish courses are included in that list. Usually the first steps for a professional golfer is to play in the Challenge Tour, where they will try to be on top of the leaderboard week after week to improve their rights to play better tournaments and ultimately classify to the main Tour, earning the card for The European Tour. The players feel a big preassure to performing well due to the lower money prizes and sponsors. However, their game is impeccable and very much recommended to watch.
Spain has been in the spotlight also for the European Tour schedule this year. The western country hosted three consecutive events in late April and early May, before taking a break and coming back to wrap up the season with another three back-to-back tournaments in Spanish land. The last one was the Mallorca Golf Open from the 21st to 24th of October, 2021 in Golf Santa Ponsa, Mallorca where Jeff WINTHER was proclaimed champion with a total of 15-under par.
