What one expects is a 5 star luxury destination with the prices you pay here. Although the rooms are very beautiful, clean and spacious, the whole place is let down by very poor management.
The reception staff are incompetent and give wrong information all the time. When they say they would book one of the in-house restaurant and get back to you, you never hear back.
The breakfast restaurant is just chaos and the waiters are not trained to take orders and attend to the guests properly.
The biggest problem of all is the pool area! Families with kids „book“ the sun beds at 7am and then go for breakfast leaving it empty and go back when they want. It becomes a fight daily as everyone learns about it and does it the next day.
Numerous complains to the pool staff and front desk staff did not help. They never managed to do anything or solve the problem.
This place was the worst 5 star experience we had in Algarve.

Amazing hotel! It’s beyond all the expectations! Everything is 10 out of of 10! 24h gym is high quality full equipped! Breakfast is very various and tasty, spa is very nice and big, rooms are beautiful and comfy, staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel is pet friendly.

Rarely do we stay outside of the Marriott portfolio but so glad we did as Ombria knows how to deliver hospitality. Incredibly friendly staff, good communication ahead of our arrival, and a great offerings of services on the premises. We tried all the restaurants and eating locations which have all delivered. Only feedback there is we’d recommend to have proper espresso machines for the price point the hotel is at.
The spa is great but even on slow days fills up fast. Would have been great to design a common area proportional to the other spa floors and offerings.
The team was super flexible and honored our previous rate when our flight was cancelled.
Overall, probably the best property out of the 9-10 we’ve stayed at in Portugal due to the suite features and quiet ambiance.

We are currently staying at the Viceroy Ombria, and while the property itself is stunning, our experience at the main restaurant was deeply disappointing and not aligned with the standards of a five-star hotel.
We had an 8:00 pm reservation and were dining with our 5-month-old baby and 2.5-year-old toddler. Upon ordering, we specifically asked how long the rice would take and were told approximately 20–25 minutes. We explained that we were on a time limit due to the children and kindly asked that dishes be sent out as soon as they were ready.
Our appetizers arrived, but after 1.5 hours, our main dishes had still not been served. When we asked our server for an update, she went to speak with the person organizing orders, who shrugged in response. She never returned to our table. We later asked another server, and again encountered visible annoyance and dismissive body language, including rude gestures from the kitchen staff. No one followed up with us or provided an estimate.
At that point, we told our original server that if the food would take much longer, we would consider taking it to go so we could feed our baby. Once again, there was no follow-up or communication.
Eventually, we had no choice but to leave. I asked to speak with the manager, and when I explained the situation, there was no apology or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. I simply needed a realistic time estimate so we could make an informed decision — not to rush anyone. I speak multiple languages and understand that language barriers can exist, but empathy and basic communication should not.
This was especially disappointing because the hotel itself is beautiful: the rooms are excellent, housekeeping is impeccable, and in-room service has been outstanding. Unfortunately, the restaurant experience fell well below expectations — not because of timing alone, but due to poor communication, lack of accountability, and unprofessional attitudes.
I hope management takes this feedback seriously. A five-star property should ensure that guests — especially families — are treated with respect and transparency, even when the kitchen is delayed.

We had the most wonderful stay at Viceroy Ombria Algarve. This hidden gem near Loulé is the perfect place to relax and unwind. From the moment we arrived, everything felt calm, welcoming, and beautifully thought out.
The rooms were spacious, stylish, and very comfortable, with lovely details that made our stay extra special. The pool area was peaceful and beautifully maintained, with plenty of comfortable sun loungers and umbrellas. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, and à la carte options to choose from.
The staff were fantastic - friendly, attentive, and always happy to help.
Viceroy Ombria Algarve is a truly special place, and we left feeling completely refreshed. We are looking forward to returning next year 😊
