Made a 1 night booking for 260 chf, realised after 1 min that the dates was wrong, called the hotel immediately and they told me that it was just too bad, I should have checked better… « you must pay for your mistake »

Overall experience was mediocre. Only good thing is location in Sils which is optimal for a weekend of walks in the area. Room was dirty and insanely hot upon arrival. Bathroom had open shower only with curtain which inevitably leads to water everywhere. A la carte restaurant very expensive but not matching price with quality. Some workers in the staff were nice but some others not welcoming (They forgot to mark our reservation for the restaurant during our stay).

Even though this hotel is a bit worn around the edges, I have to give it 5 stars for value. The location is fantastic, right next to the hiking trails to the Fex Valley, just below the classy Waldhaus Hotel (go for a cocktail and some music!), just above the staging area for the horse-led carriages, and near the local restaurants. Yet it is very quiet. It's the best spot in Sils Maria, if you ask me.
Our room was simple, gently renovated, functional and clean. The balcony had a lovely view, but was not in the best of repair. The bed was a tad on the firm side for me, but not too bad. Good shower and pressure. Bathrobes are available to go to the pool/whirlpool/sauna. There is an in-room safe for valuables.
I feel like this is a family hotel, but we didn't feel out of place or bothered as a couple. Other that the occasional pitter patter of little feet above our bedroom on the 3rd floor we didn't notice noise from kids.
The breakfast buffet was colossal. It really had all bases covered. Eggs, sausages; gourmet local cheeses; two huge self-serve coffee/espresso machines; tea, cocoa, juice; fruit salad, muesli, yogurts; all kinds of bread, croissants, jams. And you really could go back multiple times with out shame. The children seemed to love doing that :-).
Based on other users' reviews, I was worried about the service, but everybody from the receptionists to the staff working in the breakfast room were extremely friendly, helpful, and competent. I have no idea what people were complaining about.
We were pleasantly surprised to receive Engadine Cards as a perk for booking early and paying ahead. These cards give you free travel on all the regional trains, buses, and cable lifts. That's a real savings. We used ours to take the Postauto to Chiavenna.
Yes, the hotel is a bit dated and the basement level game area, library, and pool/terrace areas in particular could use renovation. But the price is right, the location and service are excellent, the breakfast is very generous, and you do have a two small pools to dip in and a terrace to lounge on.
For me the measure of a hotel is if you would stay there again. We would and will. The Schweizerhof in Sils Maria has a lot going for it!

We were having a good experience until we had an unfortunate event related to safety in the swimming pool. We approached the management of the hotel to convey what we experienced and their attitude couldn’t have been more indifferent.
While in the swimming pool, an adult was throwing a small rugby ball with another person from one side to another of the pool, monopolizing the use of it. They were throwing it very harshly and fast: elderly people and families with kids just like us had to leave the pool because it was not safe to stay, plus the hotel employees present at the moment saw the situation but did nothing.
The next the day I asked to talk to the management of the hotel and after trying to brush it off with a person from reception so as not to talk to me directly, I insisted, and someone from management came out to greet me. When I explained what we had experienced the day before, he unfortunately chose a very unprofessional approach as “the best defense is a good attack” without even pronouncing a comment on the situation I had conveyed.
I thought it was a rather poor and mediocre approach as I was not mad, angry, or even criticizing the hotel. I just was letting them know, so that they could maybe update their policies or better prepare their kind staff for situations like this. Their answer was unfortunately, very disappointing and very VERY tone-deaf with good customer service and social manners nowadays.
If you go with kids, know that the swimming pool is not a safe environment and that if you have any situations in general that need to be solved, their top management has no intention of actually solving them, they just prefer to be right.
