At one point, this hotel was the headquarters of American 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, commanded by Colonel Robert Sink, of Band of Brothers fame.
Officers like Dick Winters, Harry Welsh, and Lewis Nixon walked its halls and corridors.
It’s still a spectacular hotel in an even more spectacular location.
The lake is beautiful and sits right at the steps of the hotel. Stunning Mountain View’s surround the hotel on all sides.
If you’re a fan of easy company, you’ve gotta make the pilgrimage to the Grand Hotel Zell am See!
You can spend the night at the hotel, or you can just enjoy the views from the waterfront promenade just outside its doors.
Enjoy!

Is a luxurious lakeside hotel located directly on the shores of Lake Zell in the heart of Zell am See, Austria. The hotel offers elegant rooms with stunning views of the lake and surrounding Alps, combining classic charm with modern comfort. Guests can enjoy a full-service spa, indoor pool, fine dining restaurants, and easy access to outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, and boating.
Its prime location and high-quality services make it an ideal choice for both relaxation and adventure year-round.

The location of this hotel is excellent — right on the lake, with stunning views and easy access to the town. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives mostly end.
The hotel itself feels like it hasn’t been updated in over 20 years. The décor is dated, the furniture tired, and the whole place gives off a worn, neglected vibe. My room was dusty, with obvious signs that housekeeping had missed details.
The check-in process was frustratingly slow, setting the tone for the rest of the stay. Once inside, it became clear this is not a modern luxury experience. The food was one of the biggest disappointments — bland, poorly prepared, and in some cases nearly inedible. I expected so much more from a property with this reputation.
To be fair, the grounds themselves are well maintained, and the gardens and lakeside setting are very enjoyable. Some staff members tried to be helpful, but the service overall lacked polish and efficiency.
This could be a truly special hotel if it received the investment it desperately needs. As it stands, the only thing saving it from a worse rating is the location and the outdoor setting. I left feeling extremely let down and would not return.

The hotel was supposed to be the best in the area.
Their attitude was good — from the doorman to the reception staff to the waiters, everyone behaved professionally. The location is excellent, right on the lake and close to downtown, which has all the restaurants.
Breakfast was good, and the view from the breakfast area was amazing. The hotel also looks nice from the outside, with a very historical style.
However, the hotel itself is very old, and the furniture feels cheap. They could have preserved the historical charm in a nicer way.
Check-out is at 10:30 a.m., which I find unreasonable. The rooms are small and outdated, and the bathroom is in poor condition — even the tiles look cheap, and the vanity was cracked.
When I asked for an iron, I was told it was prohibited.
Not all rooms have air conditioning, and in our case, even though our room had one, it didn’t work properly.
The bed and pillows were uncomfortable.
Based on my personal experience, I would not return to this hotel. For the amount I paid, I don’t feel I got my money’s worth.
