Die British Open wird auf wechselnden Plätzen in Schottland und England ausgetragen. Zurzeit wechseln sich neun Clubs in der Open Rota mit der Austragung des Turniers ab. Dabei gibt es keine feste Reihenfolge, außer dass die Open Championship alle fünf Jahre auf dem Old Course stattfindet.
